Sunday night’s Arizona Cardinals vs. Washington Redskins game was a big win, but not for either of the teams. In fact, it was a cheerleader and her Air Force Captain boyfriend who stole the show with a beautiful and touching marriage proposal.
Claire Thornton, who cheers for the Arizona Cardinals, had no idea that her boyfriend Eric Straub had been planning to propose. Straub had just gotten home the night before from a tour in the Middle East with the Air Force and shocked Thornton, along with everyone else in the stadium, by walking onto the field in full flight suit. He approached Thornton, bent down on one knee, and asked her to marry him, right there on the field.
Thank goodness Thornton actually said yes! The crowd of course lost their minds and went wild with applause for the two lovebirds.
“It was pretty amazing,’’ Thornton told TODAY.com. “I was shaking really bad. He’s like ‘Put the ring on!’ And I’m like, you put it on me!’ The best part about everything is that my whole family was there and his whole family was there, and I was doing what I love with the people that I love. It was the epitome of the best day ever.’’
Photographers were on scene to capture the moment as is happened. Here is a shot of the two after the fact. Thornton couldn’t hide her glow, even if she tried. Congrats to the happy couple!
