The Cleveland Cavs just seem to be getting better and better as the season moves on. Wednesday night, Kevin Love did something that no other NBA player has ever done in the history of the NBA. Love scored 34 points in the first quarter, which is more than anyone ever in the NBA. He was lights out shooting 3 pointers in the first quarter. He was spotting up behind the three point line and his teammates were taking notice and getting him the ball non stop.
Last year there were rumors that Love wanted to get out of Cleveland and that he ddi not fully understand his role with his new team. All those rumors have since been put to rest, as Love has found his role and excelled big time. Love fell three points shy of the league record for points in any quarter, set by Golden State Warriors guard, Klay Thompson, who scored 37 in the third on Jan. 23, 2015. "I'm not trying to be nonchalant about it, but sometimes when you're in it, you don't necessarily feel it," said Love, who finished with 40 points in Cleveland's 137-125 win. "It was nothing out of the ordinary, as far as our play-calling and flow of the game."
Kevin Love was simply feeling it in the first quarter of the game and anything he seemed to throw up went in the basket. Love made 11 of 14 field goals in the first quarter and hit 8 three pointers. When a player on such a high caliber team can have a quarter like that, and he is not even the go to guy on the team, everyone takes notice. The Cavs have been playing great lately and are poised again to make a long run in the NBA playoffs. Even super star Lebron James was shocked with the shooting of his teammate, Kevin Love, in the first quarter on Wednesday night.
"It's great," said James. "I mean, I've always loved seeing my teammates catch one of those moments right there and just try to keep him in that zone as much as possible. I went over and told him just whatever you're doing, wherever you're at right now, just stay right there. Stay even keel. Whatever you're thinking about right there, just stay there, because we're going to keep coming to you." Previously, James held the record for most points scored in a quarter with 25, but Love smashed his teammate's own record. Love started the game 7 for 7 and it was evident that he was on fire, and anytime they could, his team gave him the ball. They were up by 15 points in the first 4 minutes of the game and never looked back.
