President elect Donald Trump has been in the news all over the place the past few years and it seems it will not stop. Now super star Lebron James has come out and said that he will not stay in any Trump hotels this season. A lot of NBA teams have said they will not stay in the Trump hotel this season or ever again, for that matter. James has supported Hillary Clinton throughout the election and now that she has lost, he is saying that he will not stay in any Trump properties moving forward this season. The move comes to a shock to a lot of fans, because it is the first time James will not be spending the night before the game with his team.
Lebron James has said the decision is a personal preference, but he is bringing his whole team into the spotlight. “It would be the same if I went to a restaurant and decided to eat chicken and not steak,” James said. James and some other players didn’t stay with the team at the Trump SoHo in lower Manhattan before the Cavs’ game against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. James said it was the first time in his career he hasn’t stayed with his team, although he said he rode the bus to the morning shoot around, as usual, with the squad. James has been very vocal lately in the media and does not support Trump at all.
A lot of the Cavs’ players have voiced their opinions after Trump got elected President and they are not happy. Members of the team have said now that they will not, under any circumstances, stay on any Trump property, until he is not President anymore. If you ask me, I think this is very childish, because all the players in the NBA stayed at Trump hotels last season and now all of a sudden, just because he is the President, they can't stay there? I think the players should get over it and be good role models for children and try to unite the country as much as possible, not divide it any more than it already is. Lebron James is the leader of his team and he should be setting a positive example, not acting like a child in middle school.
James did make a semi-positive statement regarding Trump, after he was asked why he did not stay with the team in NYC. “At the end of the day I hope he’s one of the best presidents ever, for all of our sake,” James said. “For my family, for all us.” The team did not say how many players did not actually stay at the Trump hotel in NYC, but it was a handful. Again, this is showing a divide that our youth should not be exposed to. Right now, our country need to unite more than ever, and our country’s sports stars should be at the forefront of this movement, not whining and complaining about who won the Presidency. “It’s not normal, but considering the circumstances that’s what we have,” Lue said. “But that’s not my main objective. My main thing is to try to get this team to stay on track and play the right way and try to get back on track by playing Cleveland Cavalier basketball.” Even the Cavs’ head coach does not agree with James doing these type of things, but in the end nobody can stop him.
