Something special is going on in south Florida these days, as the Miami Dolphins have won 6 straight games and are in second place in their division. Their dominant defense has been leading the way for them the whole year. Now that they have a solid running game and their quarterback is not turning over the ball a lot, the future looks bright. They still are looking up to the New England Patriots in the AFC east division. Although, if they keep playing the way they have been playing, they might be able to beat the Patriots.
The Miami Dolphins extended their winning streak to six with a 31-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The 49ers entered the game with a nine-game losing streak themselves and have now set a new franchise record with their 1-10 record. Not one 49ers team had ever lost ten consecutive games, prior to Sunday's defeat. Meanwhile, Miami finds itself at 7-4 and with a solid chance of being a part of the playoffs. The Dolphins haven't had a winning streak like this going in a long time and the spirits are high in south Florida right now.
The Dolphins started out slow against the 49ers on Sunday, and even though the 49ers are having a down season, they kept it close the whole game. The most important thing is that Miami got the win and moved closer to the playoffs. They have some tough games coming up and especially in December when the Patriots come to town. Miami got a big interception in the beginning of the second half, which they capitalized on with a field goal. That field goal extended their lead to 10 points and they never looked back. The defense came up big in the 4th quarter and they were able to hold off a 49ers drive that would have tied them, late in the game.
Finally the Dolphins’ offense is coming alive this season and the team is benefiting big time. Running back Jay Ajayi has been having an outstanding season so far and the offensive line play has been good. This is the first year in a while the Dolphins should boast a 1000 yard rusher. Then there is the play of Dolphins’ quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, who has also been playing great and making big plays throughout the games. Miami's quarterback was 20-30 on his pass attempts and threw three touchdown passes. Tannehill now has eclipsed 100 touchdowns in his five-year NFL career. The QB had a total of 285 yards in the air in the win. Next week the Dolphins will have a tough test when they face off against the Baltimore Ravens, who look like a playoff team this season.
